Mercedes-AMG M177 / M178 4.0 Biturbo
OEM-based BorgWarner/Mercedes turbocharger conversion for M177/M178 – optimized flow, high pressure stability and the technical basis for power levels up to approx. 1040 hp.
Description
The TTH upgrade turbocharger for the Mercedes-AMG M177/M178 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine is based on the original OEM BorgWarner/Mercedes turbocharger and is specifically modified for high-performance setups. The focus is on increased airflow , reduced exhaust backpressure , and consistently stable turbocharger performance – ideal as a foundation for comprehensive Stage 2/Stage 3 tuning programs. With the appropriate engine components and optimized engine software, power outputs of up to approximately 1040 hp are possible (vehicle and setup dependent).
Optimizations to the OEM turbocharger
- Milled extended-tip compressor wheel with current compressor geometry
- Gap optimization through CNC-machined compressor housing
- Turbine grinding to reduce exhaust back pressure
- Reinforced bearing for high thermal and mechanical loads
- Fine balancing down to 0.05 g for maximum smoothness of operation
- In-house manufacturing/processing according to TTH specification
- Plug-and-play installation on serial connectors

Suitable exclusively for vehicles with M177 or M178 engines . Availability depends on turbocharger variant, vehicle configuration, and setup goal.
Important information regarding the requirement
- If the option to modify the delivered turbochargers is selected, the modification is only possible if the delivered turbochargers are technically sound.
- No repairs will be accepted for typical defects such as oil leaks , boost pressure problems , grinding or whistling noises .
- Alternatively, a new turbocharger is an option (depending on availability).

Racing equipment – not approved for use on public roads.
Not street legal. Intended exclusively for motorsport, racing, or export vehicles. Installation and commissioning must be carried out by a qualified specialist workshop . Adapted engine software and tuning to the specific hardware are mandatory.
